Distribution vacuum switches - sectionalizing applications

Joslyn vacuum switches are ideally suited for distribution sectionalizing applications. They are virtually maintenance free, since they contain no oil or SF-6 gas and require inspection after only 15,000 operations. The switches are supplied with mounting frames that can be easily mounted to poles or other structures. The mounting frames can also integrate current and voltage sensors, lightning arresters, and integral isolating switches.

Joslyn vacuum switches are designed with fault closing ability and are not de-rated unlike SF-6 switches. Furthermore, the distribution sectionalizing switches can be applied up to 69kV, allowing use on sub-transmission systems.

	Click on photo for graphical representation The "CONEBREAK" isolator is group operated via a unique, non-metallic, flexible operating rod; providing fast, easy and safe mounting that can be routed using a standard conduit pathway to avoid underbuild obstacles. The rotating insulators in each "CONEBREAK" phase can be supplied with optional current, voltage, or current/voltage sensors. No external moving parts traverse the pole during operation and manual operation can be performed at either switch (with a switch stick) or ground level using the reciprocating "pump-handle" operating mechanism.

The "CONEBREAK" can be provided with new VBM Sectionalizing switches to provide quick and easy visible circuit isolation using a single manual operating mechanism or retrofitted to existing VBM switches. The installation example displays a 25kV sectionalizer package that includes an integrating pole mounting frame for the VBM switch, current and voltage sensors, arresters, and junction box. The VSV switch provides an economical solution for feeders with less than 200A continuous loading.
