The Joslyn Voltage Limiter used in parallel with the UVI or MVI attachments extends the interrupting capability. Interrupter switches equipped with voltage limiters have fewer vacuum modules for a given rated voltage than similar switches without limiters, because the transient recovery voltage is reduced during switching.

The addition of the Voltage Limiter to the UVI allows for applications of transmission line charging current and transformer magnetizing current interruption at voltages up to 72.5kV and provides 2000 amperes of loop splitting or parallel switching capability.

The combination enables a single switch to either be opened to split a loop or drop charging current, the two operations required to isolate a section of a transmission line for maintenance. Sequential switching operations or temporary outages are thereby eliminated resulting in a safer, more efficient, and more reliable system.

The addition of the Voltage Limiter to the MVI used for parallel switching, line or cable dropping allows the number of vacuum modules to be reduced. The resulting product is smaller for easy installation and less costly as compared to full load break interrupter attachments.

The system provides line dropping and cable switching through 230kV, as well as 2000A of loop splitting or parallel switching.
