Joslyn Hi-Voltage introduces the SmartLinkTM 5000 Series, an integrated cellular Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) providing reliable and cost effective 2-way communications with Fisher Pierce overhead radio faulted circuit indicators (FCIs). The 5000 RTU can report fault alarms from up to four FCIs (A, B, C phase & tap) using local RF signal. The dual-mode, dual-band RTU cellular radio tunes by default to the digital control channel (CDMA 800/1900 MHz) or if digital coverage is not available, it will automatically switch to the analog control channel (AMPS 800 MHz). RTU status points can be queried at any time and a variety of user specified fault alarms can be configured to report events. One of the major advantages of the Series 5000 is that by using cellular technology to communicate over existing networks, utilities can avoid the higher costs of installing private FM and other radio networks and licensing fees. Control and monitoring of the Fisher Pierce IEDs will be handled through a secure, web-based reporting application with optional reporting available through SCADA/EMS systems. Status, alarms and other event notifications can be integrated into SCADA systems as well as sent to customer designated personnel via email, pager or text message.
