| General: |
1.1 This specification shall be applicable to a three-phase vacuum switch to switch a three-phase, 60 cycle [un]grounded wye shunt capacitor bank rated [ ] MVAR. The vacuum switch shall be capable of [mounting to a pole or poles using a metal frame][mounting on a substation mounting frame] and suitable for outdoor use. Bushing porcelain color shall be ANSI #70 gray glaze. 1.2 The vacuum switch shall meet the following specific ratings order: (a) Switch Nominal Voltage Rating _________ |
| Standards: | 2.1 Unless otherwise noted, the switches and their associated equipment shall be manufactured and tested in accordance with the latest applicable American National Standards Institute and National Electrical Manufacturers Association Standards. |
| Environmental Service Conditions: | 3.1 The vacuum switch and associated control shall be rated to operate in the ambient temperature range of: -30°C to +40°C at alititudes below 1000M. 3.2 Unusual Service conditions, such as temperature extremes, will be specified. |
|
Designs: |
4.1 Each vacuum interrupter shall be housed in a shatterproof enclosure and treated such that no damage to the housing may be caused by ultraviolet radiation. 4.2 All phases of the capacitor switch shall be mechanically or electrically interconnected to ensure simultaneous operation of the switch contacts. 4.3 The vacuum switch shall contain no oil or SF-6 gas. |
| Operating Mechanism: |
5.1 The switch operating mechanism shall be a [low energy motor operator system][solenoid operating mechanism]. The [motor operator system must have 15,000 operation minimum][solenoid operated switch system must have a 100 000 operation operation] mechanical life operations before maintenance is expected; the vacuum interrupters should have an average 100,000 electrical life. As a minimum, the switch must have a minimum mechanical life of 10,000 operations in accordance with ANSI C37.66, paragraph 5.8, "(1) Distribution class capacitor switches 10 000 operations" 5.2 The interrupters shall be operated by a mechanical stored energy system which can be actuated both electrically or mechanically. 5.3 A lever shall be provided for manual full-speed opening and manual closing of the switch. 5.4 A mechanical position indicator shall be provided to show whether the switch contacts are open or closed. Also, a mechanical or electrical operations counter shall be provided which is readily visible which counts each open operation (one operation is considered to be a complete open-close-open cycle). 5.5 The operating mechanism shall be hermetically-sealed to prevent accumulation of moisture. |
| Connection: | 6.1 Terminals shall be 2-hole NEMA aluminum pads. |
| Mounting: | 7.1 Switch shall be mounted on customer's structure as specified, except when indicated otherwise on the inquiry documents. |
