VerSaVac™
Scope:

This Specification contains the requirements for the design and manufacture of single-phase distribution capacitor switches.

Reference Standards: The switch shall be designed, tested and manufactured in accordance with ANSI C37.66 - 1969 or latest version for distribution capacitor switches, including other applicable ANSI, NEMA, IEEE standards as defined in the reference section of the standard.
Service Conditions: The switch shall be suitable for outdoor application. Service conditions for the capacitor switch shall be usual standards for installation; ambient temperatures from -40oC to +55oC. Unusual service conditions, such as temperature extremes, will be specified.

Switch Construction:

Current interruption shall be by vacuum interrupters manufactured in a highly controlled process using vacuum furnaces.

Solid, non-hydroscopic, high dielectric material shall be used to insulate around the vacuum interrupter. No oil or SF-6 gas shall be used for interruption or insulation. No epoxy shall be used for insulation.

The operating mechanism shall utilize solenoids for the opening and closing functions. The switch operator shall be totally enclosed within a corrosion resistant housing. A pressure equalizing system to prohibit ingress of moisture into the switch shall be used.

The interrupter housing shall be porcelain with one hole terminal pads.

The switch will have no external moving parts.

The switch shall be able to be vertically or horizontally mounted.

Switch position indication shall be located on the underside of the switch to permit viewing from ground level.

Capacitor Switch Performance Requirements:

The switch shall be capable of a minimum mechanical life of 50,000 open and close operations without requiring any maintenance.

The switch shall provide synchronized operation (4ms) of all three switches to limit electrical insulation stress on the capacitor bank.

The switch shall be capable of being utilized for zero-voltage closing applications.

The switch shall have a minimum of 10 years field proven experience.

The switch will operate at a minimum control voltage of 80 VAC.
